Jaimini Bhagwati
Dr Jaimini Bhagwati is currently the Chairman of the IDFC Asset Management Trustee Company and a Board member of IDFC’s holding company. Dr Bhagwati was the Reserve Bank of India Chair Professor at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER). Prior to that he was India’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and yet earlier India’s Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg. He has held senior positions in the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Finance (MoF). During his tenure there, he was responsible for improving market integrity and implementing best practices in Indian bond, equity, derivatives and pensions markets. Dr Bhagwati worked for 11 years in Washington DC in the World Bank’s Treasury. Dr Bhagwati was educated at St. Stephen’s College, Tufts University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr Bhagwati has authored research publications in several books, ICRIER and the World Bank. He is the author of The Promise of India: How Prime Ministers Nehru to Modi Shaped the Nation (1947-2019) which was published by Penguin in August 2019. He is a regular columnist in Business Standard.
