Jayanta Sengupta

Jayanta Sengupta is currently Secretary and Curator (Director) of the Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkata, and a former Director of the Indian Museum and the Anthropological Survey of India. He is a historian of modern India with research interests in the interrelationship between colonialism, nationalism, and democracy and authoritarianism in modern South Asia, cultural practices in modern India, and transnational and comparative intellectual history. He is the author of At the Margins: Discourses of Development, Democracy and Regionalism in Orissa (2015), and Those Noble Edifices: the Raj Bhavans of Bengal (2019).
