She has done her Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Maryland. Her field of research lies in the interface of General Relativity and Quantum Field Theory. She is passionate about communicating science to the general public and writes in English and Bengali for both adults and children. She received the Rabindra Smriti Puraskar in 2010 for science writing in Bengali. She was a founder Director of Curiouscity Science Education, an organization for promoting interest in science among children. At present she teaches physics at Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore.
