He began writing during West Bengal\u2019s turbulent 1960s and startled everyone with his charming characters and introspectiveness. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1989 for his novel Manabajamina. His contribution to children\u2019s literature was recognised by the West Bengal government in 1975 with Vidyasagar Puraskar and he is a 3 time winner of the Ananda Puraskar.
